Hire Station Start Green Cleaning with the Wash Rack
The Wash Rack is the latest development from DF Ecology and is a self contained washing system, which was launched in the UK during the Executive Hire Show held during February, in Coventry. The Wash Rack is designed to thoroughly clean a line of plant and machinery whilst protecting the wider environment from contaminates commonly found on construction equipment. It is swiftly installed on site or in a depot. The Wash Rack features a sturdy low angle approach ramp which allows even low profile equipment being swiftly located onto the wash pad. The wash pad has a diamond patterned tread, with grit impregnated surface for to ensure excellent traction, with no undulations or any other trip or slip hazards. The Wash Rack operates from recycled water and therefore alleviates the need to apply for a discharge licence. To aid the safe disposal of environmentally risky material, the Wash Rack is fitted with a series of separation tanks that securely isolates diesel, petrol, oils, grease and other chemicals, making these hazardous contaminates ready for proper disposal. The complete unit has a 300 kg per wheel load capacity and will support plant and equipment up to 1200kg in weight. The Wash Rack can be installed above ground as a semi-permanent installation and its 2-metre high walls will help to ensure that overspray is kept to a minimum.“We have been seeking a flexible system that will thoroughly clean our products for proper presentation to our clients for some time,” explained Paul Smith, the Hire Station purchasing manager. “The Wash Rack is easy to install and will alleviate the need for us to seek planning permission from the local authorities. It can be erected inside as well as outdoors, which means that depots that do not have a yard can still wash down equipment safely and thoroughly. Should we decide to move a depot, we can simply take the Wash Rack to the new location,” added Paul.Paul Hay, from TowerLight (UK), explained, “This unit was developed from discussions with our rental customers who are having to comply with increasing environmental and health and safety legislation especially related towards the cleaning of plant. Currently, the only option they have is to install a permanent tank, which invariably involves ground excavation.”“This will be expensive and many rental companies may find it difficult to obtain planning permission,” continued Paul. “Therefore the Wash Rack is a more cost effective way to overcome the problems that our customers face when cleaning plant and we are very pleased that Hire Station have recognised the features and benefits of the Wash Rack system.”For further information click here to Contact Us |

Of particular interest was the TowerLight VB9 lighting set. The VB9 has been lined up to become the next generation of site floodlighting following on from their very popular VT1 product. Tests have proven that the VB9 will reduce fuel usage by a staggering 72% by simply utilising a smaller diesel engine combined with a series of electronics that ensures the metal halide lighting output is not compromised and remains at UK HSE recommended levels.
The VB9 incorporates a 170-litre capacity fuel tank with a running time between refuelling of 340 hours, an increase of a massive 435%. This means that operators are spared from refuelling each light once week. Powered by the latest Hatz engine with 12V electric start and fitted into a whisper quiet sound proof canopy, the VB9 incorporates easy access for maintenance with large lockable doors. The DF Ecology Dust Fighter Range are dust suppression units gaining significant popularity on European wide demolition sites. The Dustfighter is used to control harmful residual dust, by producing a fine mist of water through a series of high-pressure jets. The mist is propelled onto the site by a powerful fan, covering a wide area in just a few moments, rendering the area free from unhealthy and hazardous material. The Dust Fighter has a range of up to 60-metres, in windless conditions, and is powered by three-phase electricity whilst mounted on a 3–wheeled trolley.

TowerLight are Linked In With Cramo
TowerLight have confirmed an order for their LinkTower system from the Finnish equipment rental giant, Cramo plc.
This order is for seventy specially designed units and will compliment Cramo’s existing fleet of, TowerLight manufactured, LinkTower and VT1 products.
“This latest consignment is a special development we have undertaken exclusively for Cramo,” explained TowerLight’s Alessandro Rossi. “With environmental concerns at the forefront, Cramo approached us and asked if we could develop a LinkTower that encompassed additional environmental benefits,” continued Alessandro.
After careful consideration, TowerLight engineers produced a LinkTower with a 9 metre mast, (increased from the standard 7 metres), and fitted 3 no. 150w low consumption, high efficiency lamps. In addition, TowerLight included an advanced light detection sensor and auto stop/start mechanism that automatically switches on the unit when the ambient light has descended to a predetermined level. TowerLight Light Up with Litestar
Leading Lighting Specialists Develop Accurate PC Software for Calculating Safe Lighting Levels - designed for use on indoor and outside sites and venues.
With the introduction of the health and safety recommended luminance levels, TowerLight, the Italy based commercial lighting specialists, have completed research into the methods used by construction site and outside venue mangers to calculate the amount of lighting they need for their individual project. The research concluded that many sites and outdoor venues where simply following past procedures, using outmoded light meters, or simply guessing the correct amount of light needed for an event or project.
As a response to these findings, TowerLight set about working in close conjunction with the software development company, OxyTech, to provide a safer method of properly calculating site lighting levels at all times of the day or night. The outcome was Litestar, a cleverly created, PC based software designed for calculating suitable lighting levels for both interior and exterior applications.
In order for TowerLight to compute the correct luminance needed, all a site manager needs to provide is the dimensions of the site together with the type of activity or work being carried out – literal measurements or a CAD drawing are both equally acceptable. Using the Litestar programme, TowerLight will then furnish the site manager with details of the exact type; model and positioning of the TowerLight product needed to offer proper lighting coverage. This instantly removes all guesswork, ensuring that the correct lighting levels cover all site workers or event visitors.
Litestar can be used for calculating lighting levels in large areas such as fields, concert venues, car parks, highways and tunnels.
Litestar allows advanced lighting calculations and translations. It was used for the lighting design of many of the sporting areas used the last Olympic Games in Turin 2006 approved by the Olympic Committee. Litestar can be automatically updated via the Internet and it is available in a variety of languages including Czech, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovenian, Spanish, Chinese, Dutch-Flemish and Russian.
“With the current emphasis on having correct and safe lighting for site workers and audiences, we set about developing this software to help the site manager”, said Paul Hay, TowerLight’s international sales manager. “Litestar calculations are available for anyone organising a concert or setting out a construction site – all they need to do is get in touch with us,” concluded Paul.
TowerLight have been manufacturing lighting sets from their manufacturing base in northern Italy for the past 12 years and they are represented in the UK by two of the most highly experienced and prominent lighting specialists - Paul Hay and Ray Caulfield.

The VT-1’s superior metal halide lamps deliver a clear blanket of light to ensure the safety and well being of an audience as they move around the concert arena.
The latest Kubota diesel engine powers the DB9 and the light is provided from two 9m hydraulic masts fitted with 4 no. 2000w metal halide lamps. The complete unit is housed within a super-silenced canopy and mounted onto a four-wheeled tow trailer. Four extendable stabilisers ensure that when in operation the DB9 is firmly sited on the ground.
“We are working very hard to satisfy individual customer requirements and this order is a testament to the ingenuity of the TowerLight design team,” continued Ray. “We are keen to discuss any bespoke lighting requirements from companies around the world”, added Ray.
